The I Believe Bunny

I Believe Bunny by Tish Rabe, Illustrated by Frank Endersby
Format: Hardcover, Retail Price: $9.99

What is even better than a children's book about an adventurous bunny? A children's book about an adventurous bunny that believes in GOD!

Recently, I had the chance to review a "I Believe Bunny" book that I received in the mail from Thomas Nelson Publishers. This charming book was written by Tish Rabe and it is an inspirational story about a bunny's walk in faith.

The illustrations are soothing with a soft watercolor look and the font is clear to read. Best of all, it's fun to read aloud since every page is bursting with rhymes! If you want to teach your young child about trusting in the Lord then this classic story will do the job.

When I finished reading the story, my three year old son hugged the book tightly and started praying to Jesus. Now that says it all!

Blue Jays and the Blues

"Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from the will of your Father." -Matthew 10:29

Yesterday, my family gathered in the backyard to bask in the rays. My husband was chatting on his cell phone and my son was using my garden tools in the sand, life was blissfully perfect at that moment in time! I gazed at our yard, the ground was finally level, and my grass babies were growing strong :)

While I was admiring the scenery, I noticed a frantic movement across the yard. I squinted my eyes, a piece of paper caught in the wind? No wait... I stood up from my chair... what is that? Something was flapping on the ground and I gasped when it dawned on me, it was a bird on its back!! Oh no!

My intense love for animals kicked into high gear, I raced across the yard with no shoes on and threw caution to the wind. I slowly dropped to my knees next to the young blue jay and I immediately knew it was injured from the fall since it was unable to stand up on its own. I picked up the noisy bird and cradled it in my arms, I rushed the bird to my house and gave it water. The bird held on to me tightly and tucked its head deep into my shirt for shelter. It was not the first time I have rescued a young blue jay and I knew just how to nurture this little buddy back to health! While I whispered a desperate prayer for this birdie, my husband surprised me with a homemade nest in a bucket.

(Not an actual photo)

I smiled at my husband and gently laid the noisy bird in the nest. The young blue jay looked at me softly, slowly closed its eyes, and slipped into a peaceful sleep.... it never woke up again. I confess, tears streamed down my face. I wasn't able to accept the fact that this noisy birdie was silent for an eternity. I told my husband to leave it in the nest, just in case it was merely unconscious from the exhausting ordeal.

A few hours later, my husband buried the blue jay and I buried the blue jay deep down in my memories.

I know you may think this is silly but this little birdie made quite an impact on me! It was the first time I have ever looked at death right in the eyes and it shocked me, how could anything be so alive... and then die ((snaps fingers)) just like that? It was a bittersweet death, one that I will always remember. Death is not a common theme in my life but I know I will be whistling a different tune one of these days. I shall always remember the lively bird and its surprising end. I shall always tuck my son in bed and hug him tightly every morning as if it was my very last. Only the Lord knows when we shall leave this world and I shall be prepared to meet Him! :) Are you?

"I wait for the LORD, my soul doth wait, and in his word do I hope." -Psalms 130:5
